Day Twenty-Seven
Ephesians 3: 19
In the abundance of his glory may he, through his Spirit, enable you to grow firm in power with regard to your inner self, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, with all God's holy people you will have the strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth, so that, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond knowledge, you may be filled with the utter fullness of God.
Reflection
What wonderful words in today's Scripture passage: abundance, power, faith, planted in love, built on love, the love of Christ, filled with the utter fullness of God. God doesn't do things in half measure: he goes all the way. He is so generous with his gifts to us, especially the gift of his love, which he pours into our hearts as we open them to him.
All this is, as St. Paul writes, the work of his Spirit in us. We are to be planted in love and grow in love. Christ desires to live in our hearts. This is a wonderful truth and mystery: Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth, wishes to dwell in our hearts. When he comes to dwell in our hearts, he purifies them. Our "inner self" must grow firm in power, and God's Spirit help us to achieve this power.
Prayer
Transform my heart, O Jesus, into a fit dwelling place for you to remain. Help me to grow firm in the power of your Spirit and in love for you and my brothers and sisters.
Amen.
