"I have come to cast fire on the earth"
Day Eleven

1 Corinthians 13:1 - 3

Though I command languages both human and angelic - if I speak without love, I am no more than a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. And though I have the power of prophecy, to penetrate all mysteries and knowledge, and though I have all the faith necessary to move mountains - if I am without love, I am nothing. Though I should give away to the poor all that I possess, and even give up my body to be burned - if I am without love, it will do me no good whatever.

Reflection

Love is far more important than knowledge, faith and good works. Without love we are like empty shells with nothing good inside us. We may look good on the outside: going to church, singing Christian songs, helping the poor, etc., but if we lack genuine love for God and others, we are hypocrites and will do nothing that will bear good fruit for the kingdom of God.

Jesus did not ask Peter, "do you understand me?" but "do you love me?" It's not that knowledge is not important; it is, but it must be accompanied by love or it is worthless. Scripture suggests that we should speak with love. We should do everything with love. Without love, as Scripture says, we are "nothing." With love, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Prayer

Lord, help me to speak with love, to act with love, to listen with love, to pray with love, to work with love, to do all things with love. May I reflect your amazing love to all those I encounter on this journey of life. Thank you for loving us to the end.

Amen.
