Day Seventeen
Romans 8:38 - 39
For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nothing already in existence and nothing still to come, nor any power, nor the heights nor the depths, nor any created thing whatever, will be able to come between us and the love of God, known to us in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflection
St. Paul was a man on fire with the love of God. He loved Jesus deeply and wanted everyone to know his love. The love of God is stronger than all things, even death itself. Although there is much evil in our world, scandals in the church, false teachers, etc., the love of God conquers all these things.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God but can freely choose not to love him. We do this whenever we willingly sin. Still, we must not lose hope: the love of Christ is greater than our sins. Jesus just wants us to turn away from them and back to his embrace. When we are reconciled with God we are also reconciled with his body, the church. We are to love the church as Christ loved it, "giving himself up" for her.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord God, for your great love in your Son Jesus Christ and that nothing will separate me from your love. Help me to live always in your love and to spread it to others.
Amen.
